David Swanson knows just how to make the Bible and other difficult theological concepts applicable to every day living. Comparing the spiritual life to a patient in need of medical evaluation makes so much sense. I know my spiritual life needs a jump start and Vital Signs helps us do some self-diagnosis about where we are with God and what we need to reignite a relationship with God. Excellent.

Dr. Swanson does a wonderful job of providing everyday examples to illustrate his key points. This is a very enjoyable "read" ... while the book is filled with challenging questions for all Christians, it is done in such a way as to make the reader feel encouraged and empowered to face life's hurdles and to choose to live abundantly!

When I first received this book for review, I put it in a loose leaf binder, and out of curiosity began to read just the first few pages. I couldn’t put it down ’til I finished the chapter. Honestly. David Swanson has an easy style. He’s funny. And he has great illustrations. I’ll bet his style of preaching is just as conversational.

Swanson's parallel of our physical health with our spiritual health is one that Christians at all stages of spiritual maturity can grasp. While our salvation is not based on works, the Bible clearly defines the marks of a maturing believer in Christ. This book is about transformation and how Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit, matures us when we are willing to be less concerned with ourselves and more concerned with what God desires for us and from us. It is an engaging narrative that helps the reader easily understand and track their own spiritual vital signs and health.
