The Unnecessary Art of Worry
By Luke 15
created on Sun, 11/21/2010 - 21:23

I think I have reached that point in my young life where I have finally discovered that I am really not invincible.  Did I mention that I am graduating from college, taking more classes than ever and going to seminary in the spring??  Worry has consumed me this semester when I really should be relying on God.

In Luke 12:25 Jesus says, "who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life"?  This is a reminder that we really have nothing to worry about when we rely on God to take care of us.  Worry gets in the way of faith and it can get to even the most faithful.  One of my top spiritual gifts is faith and it has helped me get through many adversities in life, but for some reason this semester worry has grabbed a hold of me.

There are many things to "worry" about given the economy and the way things are going these days, but we must rely on God to provide us with everything we will need to get through this life.  In that same parable in Luke, Jesus talks about how God feeds the birds, clothes the grass of the field.  He does all of this and they're not even His beloved people.  If we strive to have things, we will have nothing.  We can't store all of this stuff up when we go.  We have to fully trust and rely on God to provide us with everything we "need" and not worry about all of the little things we possess.

I am so glad that you posted this! I try hard not to worry, but a lot of times I find that it envelopes me anyway. I know I shouldn't worry, because I also believe that God will always carry me through. He's even proved it to me, and yet I continue with this petty thing! Anyway, reading this made me smile, and reminded me that everything will be okay.
