Standing in the Hall of Fame

Life is comprised of the choices we make.  Sometimes we have others that try to enrich our lives by making our choices for us.  Growth occurs through our choices, but if we let others choose where we should go and what we should do then we deprive ourselves and this world from what we are called to do.  When we were in school our educators would tell us we can be anything we would like to be when we grow up.  Some of us are still trying to figure out what that looks like.  We are each given a set of gifts to be used in congruence with other people and you can read about it in 1 Corinthians 12.  These gifts that are different for each of us help us to move fluidly within the Body of Christ.  The phrase “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life” comes to mind.  Whether you believe this statement or not it does shed light on some truth.  No one said using our gifts properly would be easy, but it can bring fulfillment back into our lives.

I love the song Standing in the Hall of Fame by The Script, because it allows us to remember that we can dream.

Be students
Be teachers
Be politicians
Be preachers

Be believers
Be leaders
Be astronauts
Be champions
Be true seekers

Be students
Be teachers
Be politicians
Be preachers

Be believers
Be leaders
Be astronauts
Be champions

One might say, “but what about my dreams?”  How can I be a part of the Body if I want to do something else?  I think our dreams can be God’s dreams for us as well.  We may not follow them to every detail, but God will work with us through those times.  Sometimes our dreams don’t work out, but something greater is waiting right around the corner.  This is not a reason to give up on dreams, but a chance to know that even if what you want doesn’t work out there is always something on the other side.  You just have to know how to look for it.

Glory Be
