Stand in Line
By Trevor Goforth

I heard your song on the radio,
Memories came back of the places we would go,
Walking in the park,
Trips to New York, our love was like a work of art.

Now you are on the big screen,
It seems like I was living a dream,
People who don’t know you; scream your name.
But I know you. You are not the same.

Do you still remember me?
How we made love to the whisper
Of the summer trees,
We would hold each other all night,
Everything in our world was right.

As close as a Husband and Wife should be,
Our love was setting us free.
But like a shooting star you were gone,
Fame called. Now I’m left listening to your song.

Your name is now in lights,
But I remember those nights.
Awards and flashbulbs now call your name.
But I really know you. You are not the same.

Your talent could not be contained,
Now the crowds chant your name.
Like the rest I stand in the third row.
Patiently waiting for you to put your show.

Still remembering being wrapped in your arms,
Surrendering to your lips and your charms.
You say, “That was a different time.”
Now our love is gone as I stand in line.
