"What a day, what a day, what a day that will be." This is a line from a Phil Keaggy's What a Day dating back to the 1970's when I was a teenager. Phil, along with 2nd Chapter of Acts and Barry McGuire, recorded a live 3 record set entitled How the West was Won. When they recorded the song it ended up being about 9 minutes long primarily due to Keaggy's amazing guitar solos.

After many years I had the privilege of hearing him play that very song at the Christian Musican Summit in Redmond, Washington. I was completely blown away by his skill and finesse as he layered the song by looping a variety of guitar riffs and percussive sounds into a tapestry of rhythm, harmony and pure genius. To top it all off he used his guitar pickup to record his own backing vocals. It was incredible to say the least. I can still remember sitting next to another attendee in the mid-upper section of the church and at each of commenting "how does he do that?"

I know there are lots of players out there that are in that same league and beyond, but for me nothing comes close to the artistry of a seasoned player who is still wowing audiences with great music. Although that day was a highlight for me, I'm sure most people have their own story about magical musical performances.

The thing that gets me the most are the lyrics of Phil's song - for he was writing about what it will be like to someday meet the Jesus face to face. What a day that will be!
