It is not often that I have the chance to speak at church. We have four other pastors who are much better preachers than myself, so I'm perfectly fine with only preaching once in awhile. This past Sunday evening was that "once in awhile" and so I spoke on Jonah 3 (we are nearing the end of a 4 week study on the journey of Jonah). Although I thought that I did an okay job in communication, my semior pastor encouraged me today by saying I did a good job with the chapter bringing out several illustrations and using the scriptures well.

I really struggle with preparing a message and wonder at times if this is what I should be doing, but I know God has called me to be a pastor and I know the more opportunites I am given the more comfortable I will become. Preaching was the farthest thing from my mind 5 years ago, now here I am in the church I grew up in speaking the Word of God to people I've known for many years, including my very supportive parents!

How do other "new preachers" feel about this?
