Isaiah 55
1 "Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
In case you haven’t heard we are in an economic recession. Most of us know someone who has lost work or is having a hard time finding a job. This is not the first time in History times have been tough, nor will it be the last.
Some people are handling this season with a lot of grace and others are truly being shaken. The difference for some is based on where they have put their trust and security.
I know of only one thing that cannot be shaken.
Remember the story about the Israelites wondering in the desert for forty years? Each day God supernaturally fed them with manna and quail. They didn’t have to buy their food, God miraculously supplied. The only time they got into trouble was when they stopped trusting Him and tried to store up the leftovers.
Or what about the boy who gave his lunch to Jesus? Did he have any idea what was about to happen? I bet he had a hard time falling asleep that night. I can imagine him laying in bed and asking himself, “Did that really just happen? How did Jesus feed all those people with just my lunch?”
Jesus did it because he could.
“Yeah, that is a great story” you might say. “But God doesn’t provide manna anymore.”
I believe that God can and does still provide supernaturally for His people.
The God of the Israelites is the same God who watches over us now. He can provide any way he chooses. The only requirement for us is that we believe He is who He said He is.
I love these words from Isaiah 51:1 “You who have no money, come, buy and eat!” God says that we can buy without money. Now that is my kind of economy.
I could share many times in our life that God has provided supernaturally. Our family has so much more than we should have based on our income. God has supplied “manna” for us even when we didn’t ask for it.
I pray that God increases my faith and opens my eyes to see what He can do in a greater way. What miracles am I not seeing simply because I do not believe they are possible?
When people are being shaken they will look for stability. May we show them the stability of the kingdom of God. May we have more than enough to share and if we don’t think we have enough, perhaps if we share our lunch something supernatural will occur.
