Following the Snow Plow
Last night I was at a prayer meeting and while I was praying for a dear friend of mine this image popped into my head. It’s an image that is not too familiar to those who have lived in Southern California most of their lives, but for a Coloradian like myself, it made total sense.
If for some crazy reason you are in a blizzard and you need to hop in the car and drive somewhere, there is no place you would rather be that right behind a snow plow. In the midst of a blizzard snow can accumulate on road much faster than snow plows can remove it. You could be driving on a street that was plowed no less than 15 minutes earlier and it could already be filled with drifts and inches of snow. So following that snow plow becomes essential to safe driving in that blizzard – as you get right behind that snow plow, you are driving on the safest roadway. With the plow scraping up the ice and snow you are able to maneuver your car with more control; control that is only provided because the snow plow is removing the debris. By now you’re probably wondering where I am going with this… So keep this image in your head as you continue reading.
Often times we get caught in storms of life. I have thought about these storms or blizzards and have come to the realization that they don’t always have to be “hard” times in our lives. Sometimes life throws us curve balls, sometimes God begins to show his plan for our lives and then its like He hit the mute button and we can’t hear him anymore. Sometimes we turn to our own selfish desires… the list could go on and on. Either way these times of our lives become like blizzards. If we were to try to venture out on our own, chances are we would end up in a snow bank somewhere…
Goingback to the image I saw, Jesus laid on my heart very clearly – It’s in these moments; these blizzards that invade our lives that we are faced with two options: One is to be like the people I used to hear about on the news who tried to venture out into the blizzard and were found stuck or sometimes even frozen in their cars. Or we could press into the snow plow and follow the only sure-fire bet in the midst of the storm.
Pressing in is the only way to get through the storms. As I saw that picture while I was praying for my friend. I heard just two beautiful words, “Press In”. Two words with limitless potential. When we find ourselves searching for answers and praying for direction in our lives, one thing must stay constant — We must press in.
Whatever you’re facing now in your life, whether you’re in calm before the storm or smack dab in the middle of a blizzard, the maker of the universe wants to meet with you. He wants to teach you, show you just how much he loves you. This promise never changes.
Hebrews 13:5b
God has said ”Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Nate
