The Soul of Hip Hop Live!

So what exactly is a theology of Hip Hop? How might God show up in the music? Moreover, what God is showing up in the music? What is a theology of Hip Hop? And how might one begin to grapple with the more profane aesthesis of rap music? Well, these are some of the items I look at in my new book, The Soul of Hip Hop: Rims, Timbs and a Cultural Theology (IVP). We have entered a new era of approaches to God and culture. Hip Hop is a leading voice in that arena and cannot be overlooked as some cultures have (e.g. Jazz, The Blues, Rock & Roll). Thus, our posture should be that of a learner and one that can enter without judgment…a difficult task when one has been conditioned to judge without knowledge.
