Here’s to the End of Retirement – Literally.

(and the death of Fidelity's Green Line of Life)  

This is the first of several posts I am doing on the 3 big ad campaigns that I can’t stand anymore: Retirement Savings, Penis Power, and Weight Loss.

 

First up: Retirement. 

 

I can’t turn on my television without seeing at least one ad campaign about how important it is to get my retirement in order and make sure that I “have enough” to “retire” the way I am dreaming of.  The ads ask me what my “number” is, if I am in the retirement “red zone,” if I am going to “run out” of money, and worst of all, thanks to Fidelity, that I should meet with them so that they can create a “line” for my life that I should “stay on” for the remainder of my days – both when I am saving and when I am spending.  “Stay on the line” they say.  Make it stop.  Know this – the first rule of advertising is to make it very clear that you need what they are selling.  Thanks, I’ll pass.
