why I respect Atheists

Radio interviews are almost always enjoyable, especially when the host permits call-ins. I love the raw nature of a live q&a; it's energizing.

But one call-in this year caught me off-guard. Frankly, I was stunned and couldn't fill the space fast enough for air time, so the comment went unanswered except by the host who thanked the caller for taking the time...

The interview was on my book, Finding an Unseen God: Reflections of a Former Atheist. Many have commented on how I treat Atheists and their belief system with respect throughout the book. I thought the reasons were obvious--but that is my error.

In response to the interview, the sincere, non-belligerent, concerned caller said, "You should not honor the Atheist, because the Bible says that, "the fool says in his heart that there is no God.'" Then he went on to make another point...which I honestly don't remember because I was a bit dazed.

Not honor the Atheist? On the grounds that their beliefs may seem "foolish"?

So for my own soul, I'd like to offer the response that I should have offered then. And I'd like to ask any Atheists who are reading for forgiveness for not being quicker on my feet and faster with my words.

Why do I honor/respect the Atheist?

Because denying God's existence does not in the least affect God's existence.

Because denying God's existence does not alter the reality that we are all the fruit of God's existence.

Whether we know it or not, acknowledge it or not, have experienced it or not...we were all ultimately created by God "in his image" whatever that mysteriously and magnificently means.

Why do I respect the Atheist? Because they bear the fingerprints of God.

Michael Watson is the frontman for a new band on Sparrow Records called Above The Golden State. I've actually had the chance to hang with Michael a couple of times and he's a super good dude and really loves Jesus.

This was an interview I got to do with him when he was on the fall tour with Starfield. He's a very cool dude and I'd recommend you check out his stuff. It's got a pop rock vibe and they're fun to listen too. Check out their WEBSITE for more on them.
