Growing up in the evangelical world, I learned something very quickly. There are questions that are acceptable, and there are questions that are not. From there it’s not difficult to realize that there are acceptable answers and there are not. I don’t mean you literally are not allowed to ask or answer questions, but rather that the community of “believers” will treat you as an outsider when you begin to ask the “wrong” questions or discover the “wrong” answers. In this framework, the community perceives the outsider as someone who needs to be converted (again).
