This is the point of the law and the gospel: with us, salvation is impossible (law), but for God, everything is possible (gospel). It’s when we face the impossibility of doing anything to save ourselves that the gospel of Jesus floods in.
Renowned Pastor Tim Keller is speaking out for the first time against New York City's ban on church use of public school buildings. "Grieved" that more than 60 churches will be forced out of public schools this month, Keller called the city's ban "unwise" and is hoping for a reversal.
Here's what you can do in a New York City public school after hours: You may gather people together once a week (or more often). You can start off with praise choruses and Bible reading. Someone can stand up and teach that Jesus is Lord, that he rose from the dead to save us from sin, and that he is coming again. Then you can break bread and pray together. Here's what you can't do in a New York City public school after hours: Hold a "religious worship service."

After an avalanche of criticism, the White House is working on a way to thread the needle on a new health care policy which will require all employers-including religious institutions-to cover contraception in their health insurance plans. Policy makers are angling for a loophole that would ensure women receive coverage without forcing Catholic charities, hospitals and institutions to pay for it.

I've had the benefit of interviewing Bell a number of times and have always found him thoughtful, gracious, and genuine in his pursuit of Christ. He was kind enough to talk to me once again--this time about his decision to leave his church, the lost theology of vocation, and how our view of the end of the world impacts the way we think about our work today.

Christians may get a bit uncomfortable about taking about bad art. We don't want to christianize the problem. Bad art is bad art and that's all there is to it. But I want to take the risk and offer some theological reflection. Creativity and art are byproducts of men and women being created in the image of God. We have the power to create in a way that no other creature does. For sure, we don't have the power to create ex nihlio, but like God who created the world without becoming less of himself, we can "create culture" analogously.

The Mississippi State Legislature is considering a bill that could see parents who "spank" their children face either 10 years in jail or life imprisonment depending on the intention and bodily harm caused to the child, but critics of the bill say its intentions are not clearly defined.
"Danny," whose name we are protecting, is an activist in the Syrian city of Homs. His father is Syrian, and his mother is British. He's been sharing his stories with CNN and has posted a number of videos on YouTube purporting to show the violence there. Although CNN cannot verify these videos independently, they appear to show a desperate situation.
Being your own boss is the thing, my friends. There are many reasons why investing your time and energy into a small business that you can earn satisfaction and joy in running, whilst making a dime or two, far outweighs going to work for someone else and ruing your work week.

Shane Claiborne:
This morning, at the National Prayer Breakfast, Barack Obama named Dorothy Day as a "great reformer in American history." Who woulda thunk it?
I think President Hoover called her a threat to national security.
