Doesn't the Bible contain a lot of scientific absurdities?

One of the slams against the Bible is that it doesn't line up with science. In fact, I've even heard people say that the Bible contains scientific absurdities, and because of this they discount everything else it has to say. I guess this would include descriptions of miracles and such. What's your take on this?

Before we can begin to answer this question, we have to ask a few more questions. Does the Bible claim to provide scientific answers? What is the Bible interested in teaching? Was it the intent of the biblical authors to offer proof for how the world was created, like a scientist offers proof for a theory?

The moon is made of cheese?

For the Bible to make a statement that is scientifically absurd, it would have to say something like, "the moon is made of cheese," or "the earth is flat."

Now, the first statement is something out of fairy tales, so there's no argument that it's an absurd statement. But the second statement has only been considered absurd (that is, illogical or foolish) since it was proven scientifically that the world is in fact round. Before that people believed just the opposite.
