"O" God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality
Categories | God and Culture

'O' God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality provides an in-depth look at one of the greatest media influences of all time: the empire of Oprah. Between The Oprah Winfrey Show and O Magazine, millions of people are exposed to Oprah's spiritual beliefs. Christians and those of other faiths are asking tough questions and looking for answers.

Josh McDowell and Dave Sterrett approach the spirituality of Oprah by means of a fictional narrative featuring conversation between two friends. The spiritual conversation begins when the two girls get together to discuss spiritual issues. By using stories to address the deeper issues raised in the spiritual conversations held by Oprah and her friends, McDowell and Sterrett disarm and entertain their readers while also revealing biblical truths and exposing the errant teachings and misconceptions of Oprah.

McDowell, a mega-bestselling Christian author and evangelist, teams up with Sterrett, a gifted writer and popular speaker, to broach a serious subject with a wise, balanced, easy-to-read approach. McDowell and Sterrett help readers to discern the truth about the spirituality of Oprah and her friends.

"O" God follows the conversations of two girl friends, Lindsey and Avatari – representing the multitudes of Oprah fans -- who unwittingly place their faith in the hodgepodge of spirituality embedded in her popular TV talk show, magazine and webinars. In the end, a life-altering crisis helps crystallize the truth from counterfeit teachings.

In "O" God, readers will find answers to questions like:

  • Are there many ways to reach God, as Oprah teaches?
  • Who was the real historical Jesus?
  • Why would I worship the God of the Bible when he is described as jealous?
  • Is it okay for a Christian to embrace other forms of spirituality?
  • Do we have the potential to discover that we are indeed God or the Supreme Being?

I started reading my copy of "O" God: A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality last night, and it was so hard to put the book down I finished the book today. We're talking detailed imagery to where you are living the novel as you read it, and concise explanation of historical facts all intertwined in a novel depicting the truth of the real Jesus of the New Testament and the falsehood of the teaching of the many 'spiritual gurus' out there today.

I love the points made in the reality that:

There is no denying the fact that Oprah's popularity is pervasive in our culture today. From her immensely popular daytime TV show to her magazine, website, satellite radio show, book club selections and online spiritual sessions, Oprah is one of the most visible and influential persons today. Her influence spilled over into the political arena this past election as well. But the primary concern isn't political, it's Oprah's position on matters of religion that caused Sterrett and McDowell to coauthor this much-needed examination of what Oprah is actually promoting and endorsing.

A book that has a unique apologetic approach to addressing the Spirituality that is promoted by Oprah Winfrey and her many guests she's had over the years. The book is a dialogue of two women that are huge fans of Oprah and their journey to find the truth.

If Paul were writing a gospel to our culture, then this should be the topic!
