About the Film

"Give A Damn? is a feature length documentary about an idealist activist who convinces one of his best friends, who doesn't give a damn about the poor, to go to Africa and live on a dollar a day."

Almost half of the world's population lives in desperate poverty...Is this our problem?

Most of us avoid this questions or have already settled our opinions on it, but the suffering of our fellow humans continues. A new generation is rising up and deciding what will be the top priorities in their life. Unfortunately, few voices are teaching them to make alleviating the suffering of billions of people one of those top priorities.

Give A Damn? is a feature length documentary about the two opposing views towards poverty, seen especially in the Western World. One says "It is everyone's job to do something!" and the other says "Why should I Give A Damn?" Overall, the goal is to make an entertaining, yet compelling film that will reach Americans with a challenge to make caring for the poor a part of their future. Primarily, the film will challenge youth who typically avoid addressing this difficult subject. Hopefully this film will spark a movement that tackles what we believe to be one of the most important issues facing this generation. Here is our story. Dan, a goofball activist, has been to one of the poorest places on Earth and is consumed with an obligation to fight poverty. Rob, his offensive and politically incorrect friend, thinks Dan is an idealist that has a "I want to save the world" complex. This documentary introduces their unlikely friendship, and follows them on a road trip across the U.S. to to find out if the average American feels personally responsible to do something about third world poverty. On their trip, they will also interview experts about their theories and recommendations. Ultimately, they will travel across Africa, getting a firsthand account from Africans on what they feel America's responsibility should be to the one billion surviving off one dollar a day. On their path, they will live on one dollar a day themselves.

The filming in the U.S. is set to begin August of 2008. The U.S. travel will take five filmmakers across the country in the 'Give A Damn?' van. Interviews with American experts will take place during this trek. In September, three Africans (one being their professional driver) join the crew as they travel from South Africa to Kenya.

I hope you join us along the way as we give you 'behind the scenes' footage, daily updates and more from the 'Give A Damn?' project.
