Some Christians, usually with the best of intentions, are mesmerized by making and counting converts. Jesus reserves His harshest words for those who travel the world singularly focused on converts, calling them "sons of hell" (Matthew 23:15). I think Jesus was against such proselytism because it had become about them, not Him.
