The original focus of Christian mission in Africa was on evangelism and the establishment of churches, education and medical assistance. Mistakes were made, but a lot of great work was done. Today, in the 21st century, Western missionaries still travel to Africa but there has been something of a shift. While education and medical work remain prominent, there has been a change of emphasis from evangelizing Africans to the training and discipling of African Christians.
