did Erre really not make faces for four different frames? shocking.
Is there a way to watch this at a later time? Cant watch it live.
Yes. We'll be archiving the video within 24 hours after the interview.
More self-promotion in the guise of relevant church...blah, blah, blah.
Actually, if you knew Mike Erre's character, you'd know that he wants to stay away from self-promotion so much that he has often turned down opportunities in order to avoid it. He dodges compliments because he hates flattery. He struggles with being in the spotlight because he does not want to make a name for himself that takes away from his church or the Church. But, he has clear gifts of teaching and reaching people...and God calls us to use those gifts. So, he is.
Right on, Jessica. So true. Mike is an extraordinary person so completely devoted to serving God and growing the lives of his church members, friends and family, it's impossible to see him in the light of self-promotion. I'm one of the many who are blessed to know Mike as a friend, and I'm thrilled that his gift is available in book form (2 great books now!!) for those who struggle with the Church as I and so many I know do. This is a great tool for me to be able to share, and I'm glad Mike was willing to write it. I'm also glad he was able to participate in this discussion, because our Church leaders need to keep the conversation going. God has used Mike in powerful ways in my life and those of my friends and family, and I thank God for him. It is not Mike I am praising, but God who Mike allows to work through him.
What does that even mean??!! It appears this unsubstantiated statement is making a connection between Mike Erre and his motives. Without providing some type of credible evidence, how can one even begin to assert what is believed to be inferred by a person's (Mike's) actions? Furthermore, the main point is that there is no explanation or justification to this claim...just "blah, blah, blah"...I mean...c'mon, are you some kind of toddler? The real issue doesn't seem to be about Mike as much as it is about the abused freedom some people exercise. That is, it's easy to create defamatory statements without explaining or proving them because some people might actually believe them. This is a similar type of logic that some people use when trying to "disprove" Christianity e.g., "The Bible is just a bunch of fairy tales." "What do you mean?" "Like someone could really rise from dead!!" "How can you prove that?" and the circular reasoning continues.
Two bright, intelligent seekers of truth clearly share and explain some perspectives of Christianity for an hour. An embittered person extrapolates that it is all in the name of promoting a book!!?? As Nell Carter would say, "Gimme a break!"
BTW, the comment beginning with "What does that even..." is critizing the first [negative] comment about Mike and self-promotion and the relevant church...just trying to achieve some clarity.
Mike Erre is many things - deep thinker, generous friend, overly sweaty, sports obsessed . . . but media whore he is NOT. If this kind of discussion isn't your thing, that's cool. But let's not judge the motives of those who genuinely care about these issues.
I agree, more blah blah about church relevance. What is it with some churches and pastors that make them feel so self important and insightful (and with false humility I might add). Stop drinking the KoolAid and look around the world, most Christians are living their relevance not talking about how good they are at understanding it.
Ok guests, if you're anti that is ok. But what do you suggest as an alternative?
I am the one who wrote "blah, blah, blah." Let me put it another way, "Do what you do best and you will never need to self-promote; somehow people know the real thing when they see it and they blab it all over the place."
Just one more "blah" comment; Mike is a big boy, he can handle it. He (Mike) graduated from Talbot with the big M.A. in Religion and Ethics. He doesn't need anyone to defend him otherwise he wouldn't be a leader. Better yet, pray for him and think deep before you speak shallow.
"Blah" Guest. Maybe Mike is doing what he does best - answering questions and having a relevant conversation about truth - instead of self-promoting. And second, how are any of the above comments "shallow." If anything, they scratch well below the surface level. We're not, or at least I'm not, defending Mike...I'm trying to convey the depth of his character because it's impossible to know that if you don't Mike. That's why I didn't speak to Moreland's character. I don't know him.
Let me paint a quick picture of Mike's character. When he got married, he was a college pastor in Irvine, CA. He and his then-fiance began planning a wedding in the midwest, where they are from. But, they soon recognized that the college students wouldn't be able to afford to make it to the wedding and they wanted them to be a part of it. So, they planned a "special event". The only info given was to wear warm clothes (to throw everyone off) and show up at 6pm. When everyone showed up, we were ushered into the main sanctuary for a gorgeous wedding. They didn't want gifts, they didn't want a big fuss, they just wanted to share the day with people they loved (their families flew out). That's who Mike is. No desire for gifts/rewards/accolades. No desire for fuss/press/PR. Just sharing his life, knowledge, gifts with other people.
If something about Mike's actions bother you, you may want to examine your own heart/life before you make a judgment on his. (I'm not saying that in a derogatory way, I find I have to ask myself this question on a more-than-daily basis.)
And I know JP, well. If you think his motive is to promote himself, a book, or the like, you are just flat wrong. He is the most "What you see is what you get" person I know, and he's a good man.
