Freedom Award Ceremony Tomorrow Night

The last award ceremony I attended was for honor roll in grade school. I don’t remember much about those ceremonies except for sitting on the floor, Indian Style of course, in the cafeteria with a couple hundred other grade school kids. I hated sitting on that floor and my feet and legs always fell asleep.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned a bit about the upcoming Freedom Award Ceremony taking place in Los Angeles. I’ll be attending the ceremony along with my mom tomorrow night. Anti-human trafficking organization, Free the Slaves, is the host of the ceremony and according to an email I received from them this morning,

“It's not your mamma's kind of awards show.”

I doubt this ceremony will put my legs to sleep. It will be a time of honoring the heroes of the anti-slavery movement. People will sing and dance and a celebration will unfold throughout the evening. I’m really looking forward to it.

Free the Slaves will have the ceremony on live webcast for all of you who want to catch some of the action. Tune in live to the webcast tomorrow here at 7pm PST and 10pm EST. If you check it out, let me know what you think.

You can also follow Free the Slaves on twitter at #freetheslaves and facebook

I’ll be posting some after thoughts of the ceremony here in a couple days if you’re interested. Because the Kingdom of Heaven has collided with Earth, we have the ability to experience and participate in joy and celebration in the midst of chaos and suffering. This award ceremony symbolizes this reality to me. May freedom be ushered in not only during tomorrow nights ceremony, but may it be ushered in through each of you who choose to proclaim the freedoms found in the gospel every day.

Check back in a couple days for a recap of the event.
