FANTASTIC AND THOUGHT PROVOKING

I don't know what the other reviewer is thinking - he obviously didn't read this book carefully. This book is ALL ABOUT Jesus and just how big and compelling the gospel really is. It is easy to criticize the church these days, but the author only spends 2 two chapters on critique and the rest of the book explores the relationship between the church and the kingdom of God. I cannot recommend it more highly for believers and unbelievers alike! I recommend Mike Erre's other books as well!

I've been a serious Christian for about four years. I'm attracted to the title of the book, but hesitate to read it--in my mind I don't need any more confirmation that the body of Christ is seriously wounded. Is it possible to have a principle love for your brothers and sisters in the faith, and, on the other hand declare "I can't stand Christians!" I am astonished by the illiterate Christian who doesn't have a clue about what the Bible teaches, therefore, gravitating to all sort of whacko teachings and ideas. I could go on, but, most astonishing is the clear lack of understanding by the Christian male relating to his role--I find mostly silent men--cowards, in my mind--the lack of critical thinking and serious study of the Word, results in their standing mute in the face of teachings and behaviors that are clearly not scriptural. I have watched Christian men--over and over again, live out the stereotype -- silent, submissive male depicted on TV--and, make chirping-type noises confirming that, "Yes, I know I'll get more of the same when I get home." Clearly, they do not role-model the reining King of Kings. Why, for example, does the Christian man stand mute when the ladies of the church encourage everyone not to miss the next installment of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?" This same man freaks out if a political candidate doesn't support his view on gay marriage--he freaks out, of course, only in a group situation--rarely, rarely, one-on-one. Surely, passive silence-- cowardice in the face of pressure, had to be a component in the ultimate apostasy of the wisest man in history (excluding, of course, our Lord)--Solomon.

At the base of the church (we are the church) both men and women are clearly and seriously out of the God ordained order--the consequences having been played out since the 70's, are now compounding exponentially. Now, that the silent, passive man in the church is throwing his loud & polarizing voice into the political arena, thereby, further abandoning the "Great Commission" I believe we will continue to see fulfillment of Bible prophecy for the "end times." The "broad and spacious" road is being well traveled--as the book title references, deathlike noises and smells are abundantly visible as the Church continues to herd "la, la, la" down the "road most traveled."

"Come quickly Lord Jesus!"
