Evidence to Defend a Christian Faith

5 Stars

In a time when Christianity is under attack and Christians are being called upon more and more to defend their faith, this book is a must read. We are living in a society that has lost its understanding of the absolute truth and an absolute morality. We live in a society where information is available instantaneously, where children are taught to question everything and anyone, and where to claim to have the truth is "labeled as arrogant, bigoted, and judgmental." When called to defend our faith, we need to be able to do so. We need to be able to support our beliefs with evidence, evidence that exists in the Word of God and is available to us to study, to understand, and to profess.

Josh and Sean McDowell break the beliefs of the Christian faith down into 12 truths, truths that can be defended by the scriptures. They discuss each truth, its relevance to the Christian faith, the evidence for this truth as set forth in God's Word, and practical ways to live that truth in your life. This handbook can be read and understood without a seminary education, thus providing every Christian with the opportunity to truly know and understand the essential beliefs of the Christian faith, the evidence for them as it is written in the Bible, and how they apply to a 21st century Christian.

We owe it to our church, to our families, to our children and their children, and to our Lord to become familiar with the whys and the hows of our faith. This book is an incredible first step in doing so

"I realize, of course, that we Christians can talk all day about how we know the truth because we have experienced Jesus personally. Yet we cannot expect that claim to convince others that what we proclaim as truth is actually true. They can simply claim it might be true for us, but that doesn't make it true for everyone. We know that God's truth is for everyone, but unless that truth can be proven or demonstrated to be true, we cannot expect others to get on board with belief. And that is where knowing why we believe that something is true comes into play" (p. 43).
