If a person gets saved, gets baptized, walks away for a period of time, returns back to the Lord, repents, should this person get baptized again?
If a person gets saved, gets baptized, walks away for a period of time, returns back to the Lord, repents, should this person get baptized again?
The reason I am rephrasing your question is because the baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential to salvation. So, theoretically, if someone could lose the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that person could also lose his or her salvation.

There has been a movement for decades to delete the Bible from the minds of people. Many churches I have observed have omitted a primary verse regarding "how" we get born again. That verse would be Romans 10:9. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Last year, I was in a Wal Mart and had met a Senior Pastor of a local Baptists church. I expressed my lack of enthusiasm to subject myself to churches who cannot even teach the accuracy of the Bible. To this, he replied, "Well, it means different things to different people."
What an insult to God that this supposed minister would utter such a lie!!! He was, in fact, stating that the Bible was subjective. It is subject to the opinion of the reader. Hogwash!!!! When a person is standing in 120 degree heat in the desert, it is HOT. When the same person is at the north pole, it is cold. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, it does not matter what they had for breakfast or even if they have had breakfast. It is still what it is! Until Christians rise up once again and claim the truths of the Bible by claiming the words in the Bible, there is little reason to expect Christians to ever see results God has promised them.
More specifically to the question at hand, the answer is not subject to the opinion of a body of people. The Bible says in I Peter 1:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
Now if God made that seed incorruptible, you cannot corrupt it!!! You would have to be bigger than God. It is a requirement here to point out something really cool!!!
There is a word missing in I Peter 1:23. The average person may be able to find it by simply diagramming it. For brevity, I will tell you. It is the word "seed" right after the word "incorruptible". This omission is not an accident. It is not private interpretation. It is not in the Stephen's Text either. It is omitted to put emphasis on the INCORRUPTIBILITY of that seed which God gives us!!!! People often ask, "Well, are you saying, 'Once saved, always saved'?" I never said that. Neither does the Bible. But it does say that there are two options for being born again. One, is corruptible seed and the other is incorruptible seed! Incorruptible seed is eternal life. Corruptible seed is finite.
There is a Biblical Scholar from the late 1800's named E.W. Bullinger. Most Theologians dismiss his work as being old fashion or out of date. Actually, when researching the Bible, the student should desire to be as close to the original as possible. Anyway, E.W. Bullinger is the only person in history who ever documented Figures of Speech in the Bible as well as other studies. Most any pastor worth his salt has Bullinger's work, "Numbers in Scripture" or even "Witness of the Stars". Very few have the FOS book. I have the companion Bible sourced by Bullinger. It is great work!!! When, I research anything, I always check what he has first.
I would recommend the serious student and minister go to www.cbd.com and search "Bullinger" and order his Companion Bible as well as his "Figures of Speech in the Bible". It will change your entire perspective of what is taught in church. Most of what is taught in church is traditional babble. It is foolishness run a muck.
I do not have all the answers and neither did Bullinger. But an honest student of the Bible will cast aside tradition and study for himself what the Bible actually teaches. I have found that 90-95% of what is taught in Churchianity is bogus and empty of truth.
In John 18:38, Pilate said, "What is truth!!!" It has been the desperate call of man kind for centuries. Jesus Christ had handled this earlier in John 17:17 " Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."
God's Word is truth!!!! There are treasures of truth in it that people miss a lifetime because they never read it!!! They read around it!!! They read what the great Dr. so-and-so said or the wonderful Reverend Elmer Fudd has said. It is a travisty that most Christians can't quote more than one or two verses out of the entire Bible. Yet when Jesus Christ was confronted by Satan on the mount, he repied in every case of temptation, "IT IS WRITTEN"!!!!!!! Jesus Christ knew the Word of God!!!!! If you are to follow him as your Lord and savior, it behooves you to know it also.
Have a great day. Email me if you wish.
Hi Richard. I am impressed by your zeal to know truth. Reading your comments, however, I got the feeling that you were angry at the old Baptist Minister for not agreeing with you and repenting of his ignorance. I wonder what impression that gave him about your belief. The truth is people don't change because they feel confronted by someone who, in so many words, says that all your years of believing, studying the Bilble, and love for Jesus is wrong. "I may be youner than you but I know God better than you do". Maybe you do know something he doesn't. But it is not by taking a position of supiority that creates faith, it is by humbly acknowledging their feelings and beliefs that it begins. How can they accept your faith if you don't first accept them.
I too, think the Bible is a vital witness to the gospel of Jesus. But I came out of a Biblicist denomination, and am aware that the Bible can be used as a hammer, rather than an open invitation to faith in God. My old church's motto was, "We speak where the Bible speaks, and are silent where the Bible is silent. It took me a while to see that the Bible is never silent, and what is ("spoken") written is subject to each person's interpretation. Different people string Bible versus together in different ways. Who is able to become judge of who is right and who is not.
My old church did, and still does, believe that the use of instruments of music during any worship service would send you to hell as sure as adultry, failure to confess faith, or blasphemy the Holy Spirit. Why do they believe such a thing? They point out that in the New Testament, which they belive is the new law of Christ, that there are only 15 passages refering to Christian music in church. Non of these passages mention the use of musical instruments, therefore, if the Bible is to be the last word, musical worship must be limited to singing.
Someone, I can't remember who, once wisely said, "He who knows only the Bible, knows not even that". I have discoverd that knowledge and intellect is not all we need to know the will of God. More important, I belive, is consciousness. No one I have ever met during my forty years as a minister continues to believe the exact same things at age 40 that they believed at age 20.
Faith, as used in the NT is most often a verb. This tells me that faith is a continual movement, it is always changing. Who would dare to say that at any one point in their life they fully know God. God is found in the searching, because life itself is ever changing. The incarnation is a message telling us that to find God, we must be involved in finding ourselves.
I hope my words are helpful. If not it's okay. Ultimately life itself will be your guide. I wish you the very best.
The bible was created by Constantine, the last pagan emperor of ancient Rome, in 337 C.E. for political control of Rome. God never has and never will "talk" to any human being. Wake up from your dream.
You cannot lose your salvation from this. I am not sure what they are thinking here. We have to make some changes. Los Angeles Luxury Apartments
There is so much to learn about this in the future. I am not sure where you are going with this. There are so many different opinions about this and there is definitely a lot to learn about this.

Richard,
Wow, I've always thought of myself as a true Christian, and that the Bible is law. But if I'm being honest with myself, I wonder if I'm more like the people you speak of: Christian by name, but do they really understand what they believe?
I think that God knows the truth in my soul. Since my baptism gifts have been steady and endless. For that I'm very thankful.
Your "rant" :) has inspired me to delve into the Scripture. Thanks for the recommendations on where to get started seriously.
