John is Doing Something Amazing, but He Needs Our Help!

My friend John has an awesome blog called human3rror.com It's got a ton of great insight from a guy who communicates Christ's involvement in every aspect of his life, as a dad, friend, son, husband, creative web director for this small, podunk church in Georgia called Northpoint, etc.

My Life Will Never Be The Same

Fantastic. Thoughts?

I Need a Title for this Song

This is a song I've been working on lately. Needs a title. Any suggestions?

five years old, fourth of july
the long island sound, fireworks in the sky
the smell of burnt charcoal and sweet apple pie
nothing could be better than this

seven years old down in lucky man park
see the prince in his kingdom playing tag in the dark
all the king's horses and all the king's men
couldn't put these days back together again

do we ever grow up
or do we only grow old?
do we keep traveling on
or are we traveling home?

twenty three, still pushing this boulder up a hill
I might collapse under its weight but I keep thinking about
the struggle to stand still
and if and when these heavy dreams might come tumbling down into view
it's enough to keep me kinetic
but for the moment I'm scared as hell

do we ever grow up
or do we only grow old?
do we keep traveling on
or are we traveling home?

when I'm an old man I'm gonna kick off my shoes
I'm gonna die like a full man with nothing to lose
I'll make love to a woman, the same one from my youth
and I'll have given more than I've held onto

when I arrive at the valley of death
I'm gonna dance with the devil, I'm gonna waltz with regret
then I'll be on my way, cause I aint done traveling yet
no there's someone I've got to meet
been waiting to sit at His feet

he says son you sure did grow up
but now you'll never grow old
you've been traveling long
but you're finally home

I thought that bit of ridiculousness above would catch your attention.

It seems to me that lately many of our conversations about faith and culture all over the internet world are about the things we love to argue about the most. I think this is natural. When something we are passionate about is questioned, challenged, or put down something stirs within us that causes us to respond  back with fervor and…well…passion.

But as someone who strives to follow Christ in all aspects of life I can’t help but think we ought to be a little more “conversant” in the small things as well. God, being all-knowing and omnipresent is alive and working in much more than just the controversial. He’s in art, movies, music, recreation, television, the neighbor’s house, Monday night football, etc.

The Most Powerful Blog I've Ever Read - What Do You Think?

I don't think anyone has articulated my views about modern day Christianity better than the writer of this blog, Michael Spencer. PLEASE take a moment to read, come back and here and share your thoughts!

WARNING: Prominent Christian Author/Speaker Embraces Pagan Spirituality

I found this article from an anonymous source and thought I'd share it with you guys:

-------

WARNING: Prominent Christian Author/Speaker Embraces Pagan Spirituality

It has come to our attention that another prominent Christian speaker is interweaving false teachings with the Gospel in the name of “common ground”. An anonymous source first contacted us about this issue when the leader in question was seen frequenting various places of worship and dialoguing with their adherents.

“I just don’t think it’s right,” noted our informant. “Such a high-profile member of the Christian community should not be immersing themselves in other religions. It could potentially confuse and mislead a lot of young Believers.”

Apology Accepted? (an email exchange with dad)

My dad is just getting into this whole Conversant thing. He posted an article today in the Conversant Social News section that revved me up a little called "The New Confessing Church." Take a moment to read it if you have a chance. If not, it's basically an opinion article from TownHall.com chastising churches who apologize to "seekers and searchers" for some of the sinful things done by Christians and churches throughout Amercia (being judmental, hypocritical, hating homosexuals, being too political, etc). I thought the article was extremely biased and unresearched. What follows is an exchange of emails between my dad (53) and myself (23) regarding the article. Sorry that it's kind of long, but I'm interested in reading your thoughts and opinions on all this too!

Where are We Going? Post Your Thoughts

I’m a huge Seinfeld and Office fan. Seinfeld is a tradition in the Casciotta household and The Office is my new comedic love affair. Check this out though: You know how the Office is filmed documentary style? A one-camera show with interviews spliced in between? Well, I was watching some behind the scenes stuff on Seinfeld and turns out Larry David (co-creator/producer) had that idea way back when he pitched Seinfeld to NBC 15 years ago. Problem was, NBC thought it would never work and decided to go with a more traditional sit-com format.

Larry David was about a decade ahead of his time! Now all these shows are modeling the docu-comedy/reality format (Arrested Development, Jesus People, and Always Sunny in Philadelphia come to mind).
