Free Music - Mindy Smith: Love Lost

“Her voice carves melodies so sharp and fine you can almost see them.” —NEW YORK TIMES

“Smith’s best songs sound like little miracles” —USA TODAY

With an angelic voice and songs full of faith, grace and vulnerability, acclaimed singer/songwriter Mindy Smith has been embraced by critics and fans alike with each recording she unveils. With her fourth release, Stupid Love on Vanguard Records, Mindy takes another step forward both lyrically and musically. Stupid Love finds Mindy co-producing along with Ian Fitchuk and Justin Loucks. The three explore and expand with different sounds making an impressive backdrop to the thirteen tracks on the record, which were written over a two-year period. Stupid Love is Mindy’s first studio record since 2007’s My Holiday, preceded by Long Island Shores, released in 2006. The world first discovered Mindy Smith in 2004 with the release of her debut, One Moment More, featuring the hit single “Come To Jesus” which inspired critics and artists to sing her praises.

Free Pre-Released Music: The Clean - In the Dreamlife You Need a Rubber Soul

DOWNLOAD FREE HERE

On September 8, The Clean will release Mister Pop, their first new studio album since 2001’s Getaway. What can be said about the Clean? In 1978, they were the seeds of New Zealand punk. They carved out a big sandbox for everyone to play in, and their influence resonated not only in New Zealand but around the world.

The New York Times described The Clean: “This New Zealand band, which has been going off and on since 1978, plays a jangly, damaged kind of guitar pop and was a primary influence on Pavement and Yo La Tengo, and therefore virtually all of current indie rock." In 2003, Merge Records released Anthology, the 2-disc compilation of tracks and song cycles from across The Clean’s musical career. Anthology was chosen by Blender Magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Indie-Rock Albums Ever.

This summer’s Mister Pop sees The Clean continue the great pop pastiche. Circus ragas (“Moonjumper”), gorgeously hazy sunset anthems (“In the Dreamlife You Need a Rubber Soul”), and the sometimes-loose Dada approach to wordsmithery continue right alongside “proper” lyrical forays, and a few Autobahn-referential instrumental moments to boot (“Tensile”). Bob’s love of pastoral UK folk has brought some added weight into the overall Clean equation, as does David’s Eastern and African guitar jones, though all this has always fit in with—and still constitutes—the total basis of The Clean sound journey.

Free Music: Molly Jenson - Do You Only Love The Ones Who Look Like You? (Featuring Jon Foreman)

It all began when San Diego singer-songwriter/producer Greg Laswell offered to co-write and produce Jenson's first record. Greg and Molly worked remarkably well together, and on March 3rd 2009, she released her debut album, "Maybe Tomorrow". You could easily equate "Maybe Tomorrow" to the work of Jonatha Brooke, Sheryl Crow and Aimee Mann, however, Molly is much more than an ectype. Behind Jenson's heartfelt songs is an unfeigned artist, who is not afraid to reach out to an audience and let them know that she is tangible. It's evident that her songs are purely based on her own life. Her ingenuous lyrics entail stories of love and loss, hardships and better days. Beyond that, Molly's incredible vocal ability sets her apart from other female artists, and she does it with such ease.

Free Download: Telekenisis - Imaginary Friend

Influenced both by the carefully constructed timeless pop of the 60s and 70s and by the nonchalance and brevity of classic indie rock, Walla and Lerner approached the recording of Telekinesis! with the goal that each song's tracking and mixing would be done to analog tape in a single day, and that they would never look back. Download "Imaginary Friend," an exclusive track off the album for free NOW before it releases in April. You won't find this on iTunes or anywhere else...Yeah we like you that much.
