Dancing in the Minefields

"This album grew into something I couldn't foresee and didn't intend," Andrew Peterson says of his new music project. "Counting Stars has songs that are so personal I'm a little embarrassed to incude them." A beautiful example is "Dancing in the Minefields," a haunting yet hopeful song about love and marriage.

Counting Stars

Centricity
Music artist Andrew Peterson is a guy with a guitar, yes, but a guy-with-a-guitar
who is so intentionally rooted in the stuff of life—in family, friendship,
community, home and even the very plot of land he lives on—that he seems almost
counter-culture. Okay, maybe Andrew Peterson is counter-culture. But it’s not
his fault. It’s the culture that shifted.

Over the last
ten years Andrew Peterson has quietly carved out a niche for himself as one of
the most thoughtful, poetic, and lyrical songwriters of his generation. More
recently he’s established himself as the grassroots facilitator of an online
literary and songwriting community (www.RabbitRoom.com) and an emerging fantasy
novelist as well (The Wingfeather Saga).

But it’s still
ultimately that sense of rootedness that listeners, readers and fans seem to
respond to most deeply—because Andrew’s songs (and books) remind us again and
again of simple, solid things like love and friendship and hope and redemption
and beauty and how our stories were meant to be shared, and how the darkness
will not always hold sway, and how we, being human, need to hear those things
over and over again, because otherwise we become disconnected from the very
stories we’re living in.

Andrew’s latest
album is Counting Stars (Centricity Music). The iTunes Review wrote of Andrew and
his music:

With a quiet sort of mastery Andrew Peterson spins tales of
yearning and redemption on Counting Stars. Over the years, this
accomplished singer/songwriter has emerged as one of Christian music’s most
thoughtful poetic voices, avoiding easy clichés in favor of stories rooted in
everyday experience. He upholds high standards on his latest work by setting
cleanly wrought lyrics to evocative acoustic guitar-based melodies, dressed up
	with banjos, violins and percussion.

Originally from
Florida, Andrew lives in Nashville and performs 150 concerts a year, traveling
by way of the Winnebago he affectionately calls “Millennium Falcon.” His wife
Jamie travels with him and also sings backing vocals. Along for the ride are
Andrew and Jamie’s two boys, Aedan and Asher Jesse, along with Andrew’s best
friend Gabe, who provides various vocal and instrumental backing.

The group finds
home and hospitality as they stop along their journeys to share some tales with
folks who are eager to welcome them inside. For audience members, their
concerts create a sense of sitting around a cozy living room, eyes peering
forward, minds deep in thought at the expressions of a detailed storyteller.

We’re looking
forward to hearing more from Andrew here at ConversantLife in the coming weeks.
He’s a multi-dimensional artist whose musicality, spiritual depth, and keen
writing style inform everything he does.
